Sabrina Markandu, M.Ed.

Registered Psychologist

about Sabrina

Come on in! I’m a registered psychologist who believes therapy should feel safe and supportive so you can create a life that's meaningful for you. My goal is to be honest, real, and genuinely myself, creating a space where you can be the same. I see each client as the expert in their own life; I’m simply here to help you find clarity, build on your strengths, and feel empowered.

I work with adults and teenagers on a range of issues, from trauma and grief to self-esteem and relationships. My specialities include sexual violence, anxiety, depression, sexual health, spirituality, and neurodiversity, including autism and ADHD. Whether you're working through past experiences, exploring your identity and attachment style, or navigating a challenging life transition, I’m here to help untangle what feels complex.

Therapy doesn’t have to be intimidating. Together, we’ll take it step by step, with kindness, curiosity, and room for a little humour along the way. If you’re ready to unlock the door, I’m ready to walk through with you.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.

Carl Rogers

approach

I take an integrative approach to therapy, combining insights from many therapeutic modalities to best meet your unique goals. Some of these modalities include:

Alberta's mountains under a clear sky, symbolizing the guided journey through trauma offered by EMDR therapy

emdr

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, research-based therapy that helps individuals process and heal from painful experiences and distressing memories, including childhood trauma. Through guided eye movements and gentle support, EMDR allows individuals to reframe difficult events, reduce emotional impact, and foster resilience. This modality can instill a renewed sense of hope for the future.

trauma-informed practice

Trauma-informed practice recognizes the profound effects of trauma on an individual's life, fostering a safe and supportive space for healing. By understanding trauma's impact on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, this approach promotes compassion and empowers individuals to share their experiences and facilitate healing. Trauma-informed care helps individuals rebuild trust, resilience, and a sense of control over their lives.

client-centered therapy

Client-centered therapy is a compassionate approach that places each individual’s needs, goals, and values at the heart of the healing process. In this supportive environment, clients are seen as the experts on their lives and are encouraged to explore their feelings openly. This approach empowers individuals to gain deeper self-awareness, develop confidence, and make positive changes that align with their authentic selves.
